Telangana Land Scam: High Court Orders Probe into Illegal Registration of Assigned Land

The Telangana High Court has made a significant ruling regarding the registration of assigned lands, stating that sub-registrars do not have the power to register them. This decision could have a big impact on land deals across the state.

What are Assigned Lands?

Assigned lands are lands that the government gives to people who belong to certain groups or who need help, often for farming or housing. These lands are meant to benefit these individuals and their families and usually come with restrictions on selling or transferring them to others. This is to protect them from exploitation.

Rangareddy Land Dispute

The court’s ruling came about during a hearing about a land dispute in the Rangareddy district. The case involved 33 guntas (a local unit of land measurement) of assigned land in Aziznagar, Moinabad Mandal. The court found reason to suspect that the land was illegally registered.

Investigation Ordered

Because of these concerns, the High Court has ordered the Rangareddy Collector to thoroughly investigate the matter. First, the investigation will check if the land was actually assigned. Then, it will look for any problems or illegal activities in how it was registered.

If the investigation finds that the land was assigned and that illegal activities took place, the court has directed that criminal charges be filed. These charges would target the sub-registrar who handled the registration, as well as any other people who were involved in the illegal deal. The court has given a deadline of three months to complete this investigation.

Implications and Future Actions

This ruling highlights how important it is to be careful when dealing with land transactions. It also sends a message that illegally registering assigned lands will not be tolerated. A court official emphasized the commitment to protecting assigned lands and stopping illegal transfers. The results of the Rangareddy investigation could set an example for similar cases in Telangana. Consequently, we might see more careful examination of land registrations and stronger enforcement of the rules about assigned lands. For example, stricter regulations may be implemented.
