In a move to promote civic education, Muslim clerics in Bareilly are encouraging all schools, especially madrasas, to teach the Indian Constitution. This call to action came during a recent meeting at the Grand Mufti House, organized by the All India Muslim Jamaat. The clerics believe that understanding the Constitution is vital for all citizens, particularly young people.
Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, head of the Jamaat, pointed out that Republic Day on January 26th is a national celebration for all Indians. He explained that the Constitution is a “great blessing” for all communities, both minorities and the majority. He stressed that it acts as a fundamental guarantee that helps maintain the unity of the country. Therefore, he feels it’s very important for students to learn about it.
Razvi further highlighted the importance of teaching the Constitution to the younger generation. He specifically asked all Muslim-run educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and madrasas, to make sure students learn about its basic principles and values. He believes this knowledge will help young people understand their duties as citizens and develop a stronger sense of national pride. In this way, he hopes the effort will help build a more unified and informed society.
The clerics are emphasizing that the Constitution serves as a safeguard for all citizens. By actively promoting education about the Constitution, they hope to ensure the youth grow up understanding and appreciating this important document. This initiative demonstrates a desire to engage with India’s governing framework and share its significance with the next generation.
