Police in Sambhal, India have taken legal action against two religious leaders for allegedly using loudspeakers at excessive volumes at their mosques. The case was officially filed after numerous warnings regarding the noise levels were ignored by the individuals. The incident took place on January 21st at the Eidgah and Qureshiyan mosques within the local community.
According to the police report, filed by Inspector Sanjay Kumar, the loudspeakers at both mosques were operating louder than what is permitted by local noise regulations. This occurred despite previous warnings given to both imams to reduce the volume. Authorities explained that the loud noise created a significant disturbance for those living nearby. Because the imams continued to use the loudspeakers at high volume, the police felt they had no other option but to take formal legal action against them.
Local police chief, Vinod Kumar Mishra, explained that the case was registered after the imams repeatedly did not follow established noise rules. “The imams were warned multiple times before,” Mishra stated, emphasizing the many attempts to fix the problem before going to legal actions. This incident brings attention to the ongoing issue of finding a balance between religious practices and the noise levels of a community.
The case will now move through the legal system. If the imams are found to be in violation of noise pollution laws, they could face penalties. This situation highlights how important it is to follow noise regulations and be mindful of the impact of loud speakers in places of worship on the community surrounding it.
