A court on Thursday said that Azam Khan, a leader from the Samajwadi Party, will have to serve a two-year jail sentence and pay a fine of 3000 rupees. This is because of a case from 2008.
The case is about a protest back in 2008 where Khan and others blocked a road near a police station in Uttar Pradesh. They were accused of stopping traffic. This led to a case being filed against Khan which he was found guilty of. He tried to appeal the sentence but the court upheld the original ruling.
This decision by the court means that the original sentence from the lower court is still in place. This shows that the court believed there was enough evidence of Khan and others blocking the road during that protest in 2008.
