Muslim Jail Officer Weds Murder Convict Released from Satna Central Jail

Assistant Jail Superintendent Firoza Khatoon married former inmate Dharmendra Singh on May 5 in Chhatarpur district. The wedding followed Hindu rituals and Vedic traditions. The two reportedly developed a romantic relationship while working together at Satna Central Jail. Singh was serving a life sentence for a 2007 murder case involving the killing of former municipal vice-chairperson Krishna Dutt Dixit.

During his imprisonment, Singh frequently assisted prison staff with warrant-related duties. This brought him into regular contact with Khatoon, who served as assistant jail superintendent and warrant in-charge. Their professional interactions gradually evolved into friendship and eventually love, according to jail officials.

Singh was released approximately four years ago after serving nearly 14 years in prison, reportedly due to good conduct. Following his release, the couple decided to formalize their relationship through marriage despite facing social and religious opposition. To avoid public scrutiny surrounding their interfaith union, Singh reportedly changed his name on wedding invitation cards.

The wedding ceremony did not receive support from Firoza Khatoon's family members, who chose to stay away from the event. In their absence, Raj Bahadur Mishra and his wife performed the traditional Hindu ritual of "kanyadaan" during the ceremony. Members of the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad were also present at the wedding.
